現在、AO-10は直近の「休眠期」から完全に回復した状態にあります。時折深いQSBがあるものの、コンディションは最良かそれに近い状態です。遠地点付近を除けばトランスポンダー上でのアクティビティも活発です。
遠地点に近い時間帯にも、PSK31方式を使ってもっと多くのハムが実験をすることを望みます。この新しい技術はHFバンドで流行し始めており、信号が弱い状況下で威力を発揮するとされています。遠地点付近ではドプラー変移が少ないのでこの方式の実験にも向いていると思われます。もう一つ、SSB には信号が不十分な時でも、CW モードでのQSOを忘れないことです。
AO-10の近地点引数(Argument of Perigee)は、1日当り約0.26度ずつ大きくなっています。
NORADはAO-10を再び捕捉しました。発表された最近の軌道要素は、この数日間にわたって私が独自に計算したものと照らし合わせてもよく一致しています。
何人かの人から、フィールド・デーの頃にAO-10の信号がどうなるかを尋ねられましたが、ひと言でいって「判りません」としか言えません。フィールド・デーが6月末であることを考えると、AO-10に対する日照が今後5週間にわたって良好で有り続ける事を期待するのは無理なように思われます。でも、なりゆきに期待しましょう。

Current Status: 1999,05,11
AO-10 is now completely recovered from its most recent sleep period. There is still some occasional deep QSB, but the conditions are at or close to optimal.
There is considerable activity on the transponder except near apogee.
Hopefully, more hams will use the near apogee time to experiment with PSK31.
This new technique is catching fire on the HF bands, and holds considerable promise as a weak signal modality. Around apogee, the low levels of doppler shift should help greatly. Also, don't forget CW as a QSO mode, especially when signals are too weak for SSB.
AO-10's argument of perigee is increasing at rate of approximately 0.26 deg/day.
NORAD has re-acquired AO-10 for some time now. The Keplerian elements they have been posting recently continue to check out very well with ranging measurements I have made over the last several days.
Several of you have asked for my "prediction" regarding AO-10's signal quality for field day. The short answer is that I don't know. However, field day is at the end of June and it may be hoping for too much to expect AO-10 to stay optimally illuminated for another 5 weeks. We'll see.
