From the Satellite Software Development Team:

Due to restrictions in the Satellite, there can be no digi functionality
on Echo at this time.

Explanation:
Random noise from a receiver that is fed through the demodulator and
into the SCC (a sort of smart UART) will cause interrupts to be sent to
the CPU. With Echo having 4 or 5 open receivers the number of interrupts
was enough to cause the CPU difficulties in getting normal processing
done in a timely fashion.  Basically, the CPU was locked up trying to
handle the interrupts. Echo is operating its SCC ports in a mode that
will only pass AX.25 packets beginning with a certain character, which
is called 'block' mode.  This configuration solved the interrupt
problem.  For Echo, with the call sign being "PACB or PECHO", only
packets beginning with the character 'P' can get through the SCC and
generate a CPU interrupt.

A digi packet has the call sign of the destination station first,
followed by the satellite (relay) call sign, and then the originator
call sign. Therefore, the digi packet will not get through the SCC
unless the destination station call sign begins with the letter 'P'.

A great deal of effort was put into solving this problem.  This solution
is the only one at the present time that has worked well enough to
implement in the Satellite.

There have been unconfirmed reports on the amsat-bb remailer that So-50 has
shifted downlink frequency as much as 5khz up. This both from Europe.

To switch the transmitter on, you need to send a CTCSS tone of  74.4  Hz.
The order of operation is thus: (allow for Doppler as necessary)

1) Transmit on 145.850 MHz with a tone of 74.4 Hz to arm
  the 10 minute timer on board the spacecraft.
2) Now transmit on 145.850 MHz (FM Voice) using 67.0 Hz to PT
  the repeater on and off within the 10 Minute window.
3) Sending the 74.4 tone again within the 10 minute window
  will reset the 10 minute timer.

The spacecraft is in MBL (safe mode) and is trasmitting just 6 channels
of telemetry. Temperatures and voltage are nominal, but there seems to
be a problem with the onboard receiver, refusing to accept commands.
The spacecraft was launched in 1993, thus nearing 12 years in orbit...

The satellite is not available for general uplink transmissions.

The Naval Postgraduate School developed PanSat. At the time of
launch, PanSat spread-spectrum digital transponders were to
be available to Amateur Radio operators along with software to utilize
this technology.

The satellite is still operating, however, the spread spectrum packet
radio portion never took place. The spacecraft is now beyond it's
initial 2-year mission life, but telemetry records are still being
downloaded.

This from Bob, WB4APR:
PCsat returned to negative-power-budget mode on 16 Feb 2005 and is not
expect- ed to be restorable until the next full-sun period in the Fall
when the southern Sun can better illuminate the south facing panel.
Between now and then you are welcome to try to get a packet digipeated,
but this will usually only work during mid-day passes in the Northern
Hemisphere due to sun angles.

Question asked of Bob WB4APR recently on the amsat-bb:
Is it alive??  I was just looking at the pcsat.aprs.org  page at Findu
and it shows a lot of stations recently (within the last day) digipeating
through it.

Bob's reply:
PCsat is always "alive", but can only muster enough
power to get out a complete packet when it is in
near mid-day sun in the Northern hemisphere the
higher the latitude the better in the summer.

Over the next 2 weeks PCsat is entering one of thoes
periods.  The 20 or so stations you see on the LIVE
web page are probably unattended beacons.  But
if u hear good packets on 145.825 from PCsat during
mid-day, go ahead and use it...

Fortunately it will be in 100% sun during FD, but
Unfortunately, all that sun is from the side and
misses the best solar panel.  Experience has shown
it will be useless at that time.

PCSat is a 1200-baud APRS digipeater designed for use by stations using
hand-held or mobile transceivers. Downlinks feed a central web site at:

The APRS-equipped PCSat was built by midshipmen from the U.S. Naval Academy

AO-49 (SAFIR-M) is a German amateur radio payload onboard the small German
scientific satellite "RUBIN-2".

AO-49 was built by the German amateur radio association "AATiS
e.V." (German
acronym for "Arbeitskreis Amateurfunk und Telekommunikation in der Schule",
which means: 'working group for amateur radio anand telecommunications in
schools'). AO-49 is designed as a "store and broadcast" system for APRS
based messages, dedicated for the use of schools in combination with the
existing WX-Net and planned buoy experiments in Germany.

No transmissions detected since the 1st of February 2003! It appears
AO-49 is not properly aligned to illuminate the solar panels. This
should end soon. Due to its orbit, AO-49 will be in a phase without
eclipses until 13Feb03.

Martin DG8UAU has written a small software program "SAFIR-M Decoder" to
allow decoding of the received DATA0 frames. It is available at:

CUTE 1 is a Japanese (Tokyo Institute of Technology) one kilogram
nanosatellite that was launched by a Rokot rocket from Plesetsk at
14:15 UT on 30 June 2003. It carries a 100 mW beacon at 436.8375 MHz.
Initial orbital parameters were period 101.4 min, apogee 831 km, perigee
819 km, and inclination 98.7?.

During the last week, the completed modules have been fitted to the
spaceframe and the wiring harness and integration completed. The
satellite was  moved on Wednesday to an anechoic chamber for EMC testing
to ensure that the emissions from the satellites electronics, the 3W UHF
transmitter and the S Band TX meet the spectral requirements of the
launch agency and SSTL.

Several new pictures showing the rapid progress over the last 2 weeks
have been uploaded to the SSETI Website. These include detailed shots of
the S Band unit now wired to the antennas, cold gas propulsion and some
taken inside the anechoic chamber.

PCSAT2, which had previously been stowed in the Space Shuttle Discovery,
arrived at Launch Complex 39B on 07 April 2005.  PCSAT2 is now standing
by ready to be launched on the first Space Shuttle return-to-flight
mission.

PCSAT2 will use the same dual redundant AX.25 command and control system
as used on PCsat (NO-44) offering 8 on/off commands, 5 telemetry
channels and a serial port for the solar cell experiment telemetry. It
also supports the Digital Comms Relay support of the PCsat/APRS mission.
The packet uplink is on 145.825 MHz and the default downlinks are in the
435 MHz band to avoid any possible interference with existing ARISS
missions. PCSAT2 will have quad redundant transmit inhibits for EVA
safety issues, thus, it is also easy to turn off to avoid any issues
with other UHF ARISS experiments that may be activated in the future.
Also, the mission lifetime of PCSAT2 is only 1 year, because it is a
sample-return mission, thus terminating any long term conflicts in
spectrum management.

The PCSAT2 mission is intended as an opportunity to augment existing
ARISS communications experiments with an external autonomous
communications payload. In this regard, it has several potential uses:

*  A UI-Digipeater to help ease congestion on the currently shared
   ARISS PMS (Packet Mail system)

*  A PSK-31 transponder for multi-user communications to improve
   accessibility for schools and ARISS outreach programs.

*  An FM Voice repeater for full duplex crew communications to
   facilitate crew-to-school ARISS contacts.

*  Routine Telemetry on the spacecraft systems

scientific platform for a highly elliptical orbit around Earth. The
