Subject: RS17 Sputnik 40 years silent Key !! On December the 29 , 1997 Launch by hand on the 4th of November 97, by the russian cosmonautes from the orbital Station MIR, the first collegien satellite commemorating the 40 anniversary of beginning of Space aera and the first launch of Sputnik 1 had worked it's "Beep Beep" during 55 days long !! The last records known had been made on 29 of December, at 21H UT by an american OM of Washington State, (USA) and FR1AJ in Reunion Island (France). The analyse of the modulation gave 40°C as composants temperature !... Last days , we had a lower QRK. But the regularity of the signal may hope to hear it yet on the 1st of January of the new year ... The batteries don' t permit it ! suddenly the RS17's signal stopped ! During the different next fligths over Reunion Island, the signal was not at the meeting. We yet listen the others following passages. We detect a low noise, like a "porteuse" comming with the acquisition of the satellite, but no Beep Beep .....It seems that the oscillator continued to work however the electric energy was not enough strong to work the modulation of the signal. The silent is absolute now.The micro satellite had stoped it's emission It was confirmed by our friends of "Space City" in Toulouse where every flight of RS17 was listened by many visitors. We shall now prepare the OM's requests of the Sputnik and send the diploma. To get the diploma , you sent your request to the radio Club FR5KJ on a QSL card , with an self adressed envelope (A5 size) and two International reply coupons . To get the russian QSL you must ask it to the QSL MIR Manager. Then we collect the different documents to write the "Sputnik Book". I shall ask evrybody who lived these moving days, when formely we listened the first "Beep Beep" on 1957, to send us their impressions about this fact. A blue QSL card was sent by the Russian governement on 1958 to thanks the OM for informations. We are very happy to get a copy for publication in the Book ! Thanks everyone for their collaboration . best 73 FR5CY Mr MARODON Jean Paul fr5cy@oceanes.fr BP. 589 97472 Saint Denis Cedex REUNION ISLAND vous pouvez consulter le site: http://www.oceanes.fr/~fr5fc/spoutnik.html
